The municipality of Thaba Chweu is continuously servicing the Eskom debt through its financial means. As a result Eskom reduced two (2) hours per day in Mashishing, Lydenburg and Sabie.
The municipality can state categorically that no private business came forward to pay any amount of money to Eskom. We have noticed with disdain the continuous rumours by faceless persons that certain private businesses have contributed or donated monies towards the settlement of Eskom debts that resulted in the reduction of two (2) hours load shedding to the current six (6) hours. We unequivocally distancing ourselves from this baseless and misleading rumours.
We further denounce the usage of Eskom debt for cheap political scores. We urge both households and private business to service their monthly accounts and refrain from illegal connections.
The municipality will however appreciate any assistance that will come forward to settle Eskom debt, particularly local business community.
To our community members and consumers who are affected negatively by the power interruption, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we continuously engaging Eskom regarding a new payment plan to alleviate the electricity cut-off.
